Battle of Life and Time by Sholanke Peter Olayiwola

Life blooms in silence, a whisper of dawn,

Dreams like rivers, forever drawn.

Time awakens, a shadowed king,

Gnawing the roots where hopes take wing.

Life builds castles in fragile sand,

Time’s cold tide sweeps across the land.

Each heartbeat strikes a war-drum deep,

As memories wake and sorrows weep.

Life screams boldly, “I will remain!”

Time just smiles, immune to pain.

When dust and echoes intertwine,

Life fades—but meaning defies Time.

Author's note

This poem was born from my reflection on the endless tension between existence and decay—how every human moment, no matter how brief, dares to outlive time through meaning. It’s a dialogue between what fades and what endures, where life refuses to surrender even as time quietly wins.
