Preface to the March 2024 Issue

From the desk of the editor
March 17, 2024

Dear all,

As always, it is a joy and an honor to welcome you with open arms to yet another issue of Carmina Magazine, one that sings, that leaps, that vibrates with the varied voices of our fellow poets and writers. Each piece offered here is a shining testament to the breadth and diversity of creative ingenuity: some pieces are thoughtful experiments in creative expression, inviting us to broaden our concept of what art can look like; some are innovative re-inventions of familiar stories, examinining time-worn tales from fresh and different points of view. Other pieces give deserving elevation to figures that have been historically silenced and stifled—the demonized, the misunderstood, the appropriated. As you read this issue, I hope that you will join me in celebrating the richness of cultures and perspectives these pieces present to us. So please come over, sit by our communal fire, and join us. I hope you will find new paths of understanding through the vastness that is the human experience.

Before we dive in, I would also like to take a moment to congratulate two previous contributors, Patricia Hemminger and Jacqueline West, who were recently nominated for Rhysling Awards for poems featured in Carmina's September 2023 issue. Congratulations to both of you! I wish you both the best of luck and thank you for trusting Carmina as a home for your work.

Happy reading, everyone. Until next time,

Clarabelle Miray Fields
